Seeing

by Pastor Marty

Next week, I have an appointment with the optometrist. We are going to look at my eyes! The topic – how well do I see? My hunch is that I will receive a new prescription that will help me see the world better! Seeing shapes the way that we live, right?

How are your eyes?

  • Do you have 2020 vision?
  • Where is your focus throughout this crazy season of life?

What we see, our vision, controls our perception and that perception controls our reality, and that reality becomes the life that we live. Sometimes we might say, “I won’t believe it until I see it.” We miss out on so much life when we adopt this kind of philosophy. Maybe, just maybe, we won’t see it…until we first believe it. What if we believed that this is God’s world and that God is alive and active and present? What if we believe that God is working powerfully in and through the lives of people and in and through our situations? Moreover, what if we were to ask this question throughout our day, “What is here to celebrate?" After all, this is God’s world, and what a world IT IS…! Celebrating the best of life helps us to fall in love with life. Celebrating what is right with the world invites us along a path of amazement and a journey of thanksgiving. No wonder, Moses took off his shoes. No wonder, Jacob said, “The Lord is in this place and I did not know it.” No wonder, poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning once said, “Earth is crammed with heaven.” True.

When you believe…you will see it. What are you celebrating in your life?

When we celebrate, we are taking it all in. We are taking in the best of life. When we celebrate, it prompts us to say “thank you” and through a spirit of gratitude and grace, we can give it all back. Giving it all back…. A bird sings not because it has an answer but because it has a song. That song becomes this contribution to the world, as if to say, “Hello, here I am, I am singing because I can!” The same is true for us. Celebrate. God calls us not to be the best IN the world but calls us to be the best FOR the world. When we give our best – wonderful things happen! Even more, by celebrating what is right, we find the energy to fix what is wrong. What and how we see is critical. Our vision shapes the way we live life.

We have so much to celebrate in life. We have so much to celebrate as a community of faith.

So, celebrate what is right with the world….

How do you see?

What do you see?

What is your vision for living, loving, and leading like Jesus?
