Majesty

by Michael Olson

Full of honor and majesty is the Lord's work, and his righteousness endures forever.
Psalm 111:3

"Let everyone who calls on the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness."
2 Timothy 2:19

I was wondering if I had ever read Psalm 111 in its entirety before, so I decided to "check it out" and, lo and behold, I don't think I've read this Psalm before! Let me share it with you here:

Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.

He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.  Holy and awesome is his name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding.  His praise endures forever.

Since today is the first day of summer at 4:44 PM, I think it's high time to talk about God's majesty. Indeed, we've already had some very hot, humid weather (like when I grew up in Nebraska), but then we also need to remember the days with very little wind and looking at the flowering trees and the gorgeous flowers this year. God's majesty is indeed fantastic!

Of course, I'm reminded of a song entitled "Majesty" which I would like to share with you:

Majesty, worship His majesty, Unto Jesus be all glory, power and praise.
Majesty, kingdom authority flows from His throne unto His own, who His anthem raise.
So exalt, life up on high the name of Jesus. Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King.
Majesty, worship His majesty, Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all Kings.

May we remember and celebrate the majesty of our Lord and King today and every day!
