Honor Our Fathers

by Intern Pastor Katie
Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers and father figures out there! Today we celebrate you and the care and love you give to your children and families.

happy fathers day.jpgSo many times, we don’t appreciate the people in our lives as much as we should until they are gone. When my dad died in 2013 of pancreatic cancer there were so many things that over that next year I didn’t even know I was going to miss; and if I had I would have told my him how much I appreciated them. Being able to call his cell phone when something really great happened, when the kids did something funny, or when life just wasn’t going the way I wanted it to. My dad was my biggest cheerleader and the sound of his voice on the other end of the phone always made my highs higher and my lows not quite so low.

His laugh always made everyone around him smile and I wish I had it recorded on my phone so that I could just play it whenever I needed to hear it. That and the sound of his voice saying, “Hey, Katie Bug.” Love isn’t the big things in life. It isn’t the expensive gifts for birthdays and Christmas, the trips, or the car. It’s the small things; answering the phone, cheering them on, picking them up when they fall down, the sound of your laugh and the smile on your face. It’s the love that we all miss.

On this Father’s Day I think it’s a great time to tell the fathers and father figures in your life how loved and appreciated they are. It can be easy to let time slip by and not say the words you hold in your heart. Our fathers and father figures are a true blessing and gift from God.

“The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.”
Proverbs 20:7

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the
Lord their hope and confidence.”

Jeremiah 17:7

Have a blessed week!
