Caught

by Pastor Marty

I caught her.

I went into her room one early morning. She had my NDSU sweatshirt on along with a red stocking cap on her head. She had a book in hand as she stared out of her second-story window across the backyard. I got close hoping to see what she was reading. She gently pushed me away as she underlined something important in her book. Our nine-year-old was doing her morning devotions. Loved it. I smiled. Still smiling. I caught her…praying, praising, worshiping God in her morning quiet time.

I leaned in to see what she was reading and underlining. By now, I had totally disrupted her devotions or so I thought…. She continued, as if, I was not even in the room. She was reading about how Jesus invites us to be salty. She underlined – Jesus calls his believers the salt of the earth because we are so valuable to him. For us Christians, to lose our saltiness means that the good news of Jesus isn’t adding flavor to our lives. Living for Jesus means living a flavorful, distinctive life. You can see it, touch it, and taste it. It makes a difference in how we live. It makes a difference at school, at recess, during math class, and throughout the day. It makes a difference at work, at home, during the meeting, and throughout the day. We are called to be a little salty. As Christians, it is how we live, why we live, and in the manner in which we live.

Great lesson to start the day! Even more, I caught her, I caught my daughter praising and loving God in the morning before she began her day. She was learning about being salt, and there she was, unknowingly being a little salty with her dad. It was a moment. An inspiration. A real blessing!

So, be a little salty in the days ahead….and like Sarah, I hope you get caught! To get caught is to catch the attention of the other for Jesus’ sake.

So, get caught!
