Kathy Helming

Chief Operations Officer

Kathy Helming started with First Lutheran in the spring of 2022. Her main areas of focus in the position of COO fall under the “buckets” of facility, finance, and human resources. When asked what excites her as she undertakes these challenges, she says, “I’m excited to be a part of something that is so much bigger than me. I look forward to growing existing relationships and cultivating new ones—being a part of creating an environment for worship and service that carries a WOW! factor; an energy that flows outward and inward.” Kathy’s background has prepared her well for the opportunities ahead of her. She has worked extensively in organizational structure, strategy, and business development. She says, “We can talk about culture but may not be vested in, or fully understand, the work. Culture is still important, but I believe for the church as an institution, it is much deeper. I call it ‘soul.’”

Kathy and her family (husband Fred; sons Spencer and Robert) have been members of First Lutheran since 2002. She grew up in Minot, and attended Concordia - Moorhead and NDSU.
